About

The Mission Creek Midwest Festival returns to Iowa City in March 2007 for its second year of celebrating the arts. Using Iowa City as the geographic center, our organization is dedicated to building artistic communities in the Midwest through the exposure of both underground and renowned artists. The four-day festival takes over the venues and art spaces in downtown Iowa City, providing an easily-navigated nexus of music and art for fans.

Some of the headlining acts included: Tapes 'n Tapes, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone, Criteria, Horse the Band, the Slip, the Donkeys, Beth Lisick (SF author of Everybody Into The Pool), and various writers from the University of Iowa's Writers' Workshop.

This year's festival, while still emphasizing music, will also expand to include an experimental film festival, an art exhibit, a play, and more literary readings.

Festival History: The Mission Creek Festival began in San Francisco in ten years ago. Since then, the producers have been working in San Francisco to give exposure to underexposed talent in the Bay Area. The festival introduced many local musicians who have gone on to achieve national acclaim, including: Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, Rogue Wave, Deerhoof, Erase Errata, Film School, and the Coachwhips. In 2006 we expanded the festival to the Midwest with a headquarters in Iowa City.
